To express our respect for the surrounding nature, the Protest World Rookie Fest has teamed up with a project for Renewable Energy from Wood Biomass based in Tirano, a few kilometers from Livigno. This energetic project uses surplus biomass residues to generate electricity for 500 houses, avoiding the use of 3.5 million liters of gasoline and 10.500 tons of CO2 per year. Also this project pushes traditional agricultural activities and mountain forest maintenance in the same area where the event happens. In this way the event offsets locally the CO2 emissions generated and reaches the status of a Carbon Neutral Event, certified by Climate Partner. To be mentioned that The Arctic Challenge 2009 was the first snowboard event ever to be Carbon Neutral.

Almost 100 rookies from 15 countries already confirmed their presence at the event. They will be split into two categories: Rookies, those who were born between 1st January 1992 and 31st December 1994, and Groms, who were born after January 1st, 1995. Both male and female categories. Past edition saw today’s big names on the podium such as Staale Sandbach, Seppe Smith, Gjermund Braathen, Sarka Pancochova, Dimi De Jong which have builded today a carrier as professional snowboarders. Stay tuned and check the rider list of 2010 edition: among today’s unknowns there are future stars of snowboarding.
