Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 2011

Innsbruck, Austria – January 31, 2011: The Bergisel stadium in Innsbruck, Austria will, once again, host a festive gathering of snowboarders for the legendary 6Star Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck. The event will feature a massive straight jump for the 16 invited riders from around the world who will be competing for a share of the rich 75.000 € prize purse, the coveted “Air & Style Ring of Glory” and a maximum of 1000 TTR ranking points. The battle for the TTR Tour Champion title is really heating up and the Air & Style Innsbruck event could be a crucial result in the race to the final event, the Burton US Open, in March. Riders will also get another shot at a 6Star title one week after the Innsbruck event at the Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich taking place on February 12th, 2011.

16 Riders Going Head to Head for the Ring of Glory

An all-star crew of riders will be dropping in on the impressive ramp constructed out of 280-tons of steel and wood on Saturday’s finals in the Air & Style’s signature “head-to-head” format. This is an exciting and unpredictable format where one rider is knocked out of contention in each round until there is one victorious rider at the end of the night. The riders will have 3 runs in each round. Last year’s winner, Slovenian Marco Grilc, will be ready to reclaim his title and to boost his TTR ranking from his current World No. 26 position. Reaching for the top spot in the TTR rankings is the two-time Swatch TTR Tour Champion Peetu Piiroinen, who with a good result here could move from his current World No. 3 position to take over the tour lead. He has had his eyes set on the title since the start of the season, as has the slopestyle prodigy, Sebastien Toutent (CAN), who already took the 6Star Oakley Shaun White Air & Style Beijing by storm back in December with a Cab 1260 Double Cork.

Riders Draw on Friday, Rookie Challenge Kicks off Action on Saturday
Anticipation for the main event will begin on Friday, February 4th when riders will gather in downtown Innsbruck for the “riders draw” which will determine the starting order for the first round of competition. Action on the jump will kick off on Saturday afternoon when young guns will take to the massive jump for the Billabong Air & Style Rookie Challenge. Up and coming riders like Ethan Morgan (GER), Pat Burgener (SUI) and Jamie Nicholls (GBR) will compete for an invite to next years Air & Style main event to ride alongside the pros. Last year, some eager rookies were throwing down at the Rookie Challenge with Belgian, Seppe Smits, taking the wildcard with a backside 1260, a trick that also landed him second at the Air & Style Beijing in December 2010.

Don’t miss any of the Live Action
All the head-to-head action, from the rookies challenge to the super final, can be viewed live via webcast on February 5th at 16:30-22:00 GMT on www.ttrworldtour.com and www.air-style.com. The action continues just one week after the Air & Style Innsbruck when the Nike 6.0 Air & Style Munich goes down on February 12th at the Olympic Stadium, which will also be available to watch live via webcast. Check back to ttrworldtour.com or air-style.com for all the details. During the Air & Style events in the cities, another big celebration will go on in the mountains of Switzerland with the 20-year anniversary celebration at the 5Star Nescafé CHAMPS Leysin. Imperium Gastunum Jam Session

Even after 9 years, “Imperium Gastunum Jam Session” is far from done – on 18 February 2011, it celebrates its tenth anniversary and presents a freestyle contest with some really special treats. The park set-up will be changed slightly and the always-popular Monster Gap will be more awesome than ever, the main obstacle sure to push riders to their limits. This is also reflected in this year’s motto for the event, “Beware of the Monster”. Head shapers are Max Weickl and Flo Wieser – both riders themselves. At the start and in their design of the start and end sections, both of them have been able to give their creativity free rein. True to the whole idea of “By riders, for riders”, one snowboarder and one freeskier each are responsible for the park set-up on the Buchebenwiese.

2star Ticket To Ride Contest

This year, yet again, Bad Gastein will be all about accumulating points on the TTR World Tour and the World Rookie Tour. The best Austrian riders can qualify for the Shred Down Austrian Masters, which takes center stage in Westendorf on March 2011.

To get yourself in the right frame of mind for the Imperium Gastunum Jam Session, we’d recommend going ahead and viewing the video clip from last year, which was just released in the last few days. You’ll get to see last year’s winners, Luka Jeromel for the snowboarders and Martin Hauck for the freeskiers.Plus a double backflip from Imanuel “Imi” Egger!

Jam History at the After Contest Party
An exhibition at this year’s After Contest Party in the Silverbullet Bar offers an intensive overview of the history of the Jam Session. Aside from the best photos and videos, all of the past years’ photos will also be on display. And when you think of the Gastein Jam Sessions of recent years, the chances aren’t too bad that the tenth edition of the Imperium Gastunum
Jam Session will go down in the history books as well!
More info and the latest news can be found on the contest website at

www.imperium-gastunum.com

About the Event Organizer:
In 2004 a group of Gastein snowboarders founded the Imperium Gastunum sport club. Its declared goal was to promote trend sports, above all snowboarding, in Gastein Valley and around the world. In the center of their efforts is the Jam Session, an annual freestyle contest on the Buchebenwiese in Bad Gastein.

Roope Tonteri: from somewhere to Oslo 2012

WSF World Rookie Champion 2010 Roope Tonteri won today the Burton European Open 2011 in Laax, Switzerland, conquering the first ticket to ride the slopestyle at the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo 2012.

We meet Roope the first time at the 3Star Protest World Rookie Fest 2009 in Livigno, Italy, where he obtained the 4th place. A preatty good result for an unknown kid coming from somewhere in Finland. Few months after he was shredding in Ischgl, Austria, where he conquered his first WSF World Rookie Champion title 2009 and the possibility to film with the Pirate Movie Production.

In 2010 Roope won the Protest World Rookie Fest in Livigno and got a ticket to ride the Oakley Arctic Challange in Oslo where he ended at the 7th place. In the same year another Finnish rider was writing the history of snowboarding: Peetu Piiroinen won his second TTR World Champion Title. Back in the days Peetu was the first ever WSF World Rookie Champion. After TAC 2010 Roope’s name was more and more famouse and at the end of 2010 winter season he wrote a small page of history winning his second WSF World Rookie Champion title.

That was only thje beginning of Roope’s great carrier which culminated today in his victory at the Burton European Open 2011. Roope will be the first confirmed male rider for the Slopestyle of the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo 2012, a big result for a youngster coming from somewhere in Finland.

While Roope is now waiting for his most important awarding in Laax, many of his friends are waiting for him in Livigno to celebrate this incredible day in the same place where we meet him the first time 2 years ago.

In only 2 years, from somewhere in Finland, Roope is now the first confirmed rider for the slopestyle at the World Snowboarding Championship in Oslo 2012.

Congratulations Roope from the WSF World Rookie Tour crew!

About World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo 2012
Inspired by fair and exciting qualification systems in tennis, golf, surfing and other individual sports, the snowboarders can qualify to their own championships through world ranking, titles, national quotas and wild cards. By winning a TTR 6 star event you are automatically qualified. So is TTR top 50 men and top 30 women on the 52 week rollover ranking starting and ending with European Open 2011 and 2012. Furthermore, each of the 35 member nations in the World Snowboarding Federation (WSF) has 1 national quota per contest in addition to the other qualification quotas, and the organizer holds 2 wild cards to each contest.

Developing a qualification system tailor made for snowboarding, has been pivotal. All riders must have the opportunity to qualify on a fair basis, no matter if they are established pros or rookies. In addition to creating this unique entry system to the event, TTR and WSF is working close with the WSC organizers further developing the new Snowboarding Livescoring System (SLS) towards the world championships. SLS was introduced at The Arctic Challenge slopestyle in February 2010 and the Burton New Zealand Open halfpipe in August, and is now implemented at all TTR 6 star events. Fair qualification and judging will be the guiding stars for the WSC.

The World Snowboarding Championships (WSC) is a co-operation between the TTR World Tour and WSF. 240 riders from all snowboard nations will take part in this unique event in Oslo, February 2012. The municipality of Oslo is guaranteeing the event financially with a budget of 4,5 million EURO. IMG Sports Media will handle all international media and sponsor relations for the event.

WSF Event Calendar

WSF daily updates its calendar of the season 2011 and we are about to reach 200 events in more than 15 countries around the world!

WSF calendar includes all TTR events from 1 to 3Star ( except for The Protest World Rookie Finals ) and boardecross, alpine, freeride and backcountry events.

Have a look at the WSF events agenda and see the closest event to you and enjoy it!

Protest World Rookie Fest Goes Green Again

Once again World Rookie Fest in Livigno will measure its own carbon footprints and then take action by reducing emissions and offsetting unavoidable emissions by purchasing credits from Renewable Energy from Wood Biomass based in Tirano, a few kilometers from Livigno.

This energetic project uses surplus biomass residues to generate electricity for 500 houses, avoiding the use of 3.5 million liters of gasoline and 10.500 tons of CO2 per year. Also this project pushes traditional agricultural activities and mountain forest maintenance in the same area where the event happens.

In this way the event offsets locally the CO2 emissions generated and reaches the status of a Climate Neutral Event, certified by Climate Partner.

To be mentioned that this is made possible thanks to the support of Livigno Skipassion, the green sponsor of the event.

World Rookie Tour: 2010 TV Show

World Rookie Tour is a global series of youth snowboard events all over the world, part of the Swatch TTR and from 1 to 4star level. In 2010, more than 500 kids from 20 nations joined the tour in order to challenge for the title of World Rookie Champion and won their chance to became professional snowboarder. Infact, instead of prize money, the rookie tour events offer tickets to world class events, photo shootings with international media, video sessions with film production company and freeride trip in Chile.

2010 season included international events in Italy, Serbia, Andorra, Czech Republic, Austria, Australia and Chile. The kick off event is the Protest World Rookie Fest in Livigno, Italy: it is the most progressive youth snowboard event in the history of our sport which attract 100 of the most talented under 18 years old riders from 20 nations.

The winner in Livigno 2010 was Roope Tonteri: he got a ticket for the legendary Oakley Artic Challenge in Oslo, Norway, the event founded by Terje Haakonsen, the god father of modern snowboard. Roope went to the TAC and with solid runs he ended at 7th place!

After Livigno the Rookie Tour moved to Andorra, Serbia, Czech Republic and arrived to the end of season big finals: the 4Star Protest World Rookie Finals 2011 in Ischgl, Austria. Only per-selected riders from previous stops and from World Snowboard Federation national associations, can compete in the rookie finals and challenge for the World Rookie Champion title and for amazing prizes: trip to Chile, a ticket to the Air&Style, a filming session with Pirate Movie Production and photoshootings with Onboard Europe.

Roope Tonteri resulted the best rider also at the Protest World Rookie Finals where he conquered his second World Rookie Champion title and his chance to became a professional snowboarder. After the finals a buch of the best europea rookies where invited to the first ever Rookie Fest in South America, to be host in Valle Nevado, Chile. It was an unforgettable trip, with pros, slopestyle contest with the locals and some freeride shooting.

The rookies improved a lot during the season and they are now ready to start a their professional carrier: the dream is coming finally true.

Gerome Mathieu takes his first 4Star event title at Nissan Stomp-it

Modena, Italy – 1.November 2010: The 4Star Nissan Stomp-It went down this weekend in Modena, Italy where Gerome Mathieu (FRA) took home his first 4Star TTR title. Set in an urban environment outside the convention halls of the Skipass tradeshow, the event had a great turnout despite the challenging weather conditions. Mathieu took home 8000 USD and 500 TTR ranking points for his first place win, local Italian rookie Marco Grigis took second place and third went to Jaakko Ruha (FIN), who also received 2000 USD and the “Styleman” title for his Frontside 900 Indy.

Solid Riding Despite Difficult Conditions
It was a windy and drizzly day in Modena, which made the landing of the 46-foot corner jump a bit soft increasing the difficulty for landing tricks. Some of the top riders in attendance, including current Swatch TTR World Tour leader, Gjermund Braaten (NOR), were not able to stomp tricks and missed advancing to the finals. Mathieu, however, was able to power through and put down a smooth Frontside 1080 Tailgrab on his third run to take home the victory. “I have ridden a lot of TTR in the last four years and never won or taken the podium, I won today and I’m really happy about that, I waited for that for years and it happened today!” said the stoked Mathieu on his win, “Next for me is the Pleasure Jam and maybe later the Big Air Stuttgart,” he commented on his plans for the season.

Swiss riders, Stephan Maurer who placed 4th and Markus Keller who took 5th place, put on a good show in the finals for the Italian crowd. Maurer was attempting to stomp his huge Double Backflip 180’s and Keller went for the Double Corks after landing a Double Backflip. With these results both have moved up into the TTR Top 100, placing them into a great position for the up and coming winter season. Keller said “I am planning to join the whole tour and bring home solid placements for all seven TTR results in order to go for the World Championships!” The TTR/WSF World Snowboarding Championships are going to be hosted in Oslo, Norway 2012.

Fresh Italian Rookie Talent
Marco Grigis, the 16-year old Italian rookie, was perfecting his double backside rodeo 900’s throughout the day and finally nailed it on his second run in the finals, receiving huge cheers. He ended the day in 2nd place, which gave him enough TTR ranking points to move into the Swatch TTR Top 50. Grigis is a rookie to watch out for with plenty more tricks under his belt, and he plans to ride the World Rookie Tour 2011.

Next on the Swatch TTR Tour
Next on the Swatch TTR Tour is the 4Star Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam in Austria in two weeks time, and in December the 6Star Oakley and Shaun White present Air & Style Beijing will be gathering the superstars of snowboarding in China. For full event results, news, videos and updates keep your eyes glued to the www.ttrworldtour.com website.

Shred Down Austrian Masters 2011

The national snowboard community is once again going to fight it out for the title of the Austrian master in the disciplines of halfpipe and slopestyle and for valuable TTR worldranking points. The pipe competition will take place from March the 3rd to the 6th on the Nordkette in Innsbruck and the slopestyle competition will take place from March the 10th to the 13th at the Boarders Playground in Westendorf.

Big riders from the local to the international snowboard scene will be again part of the game: the Ästhetiker and last year’s over-all winner Rudi Kröll, local hero Simon Pircher, serial winner Julia Baumgartner and over-all rookie champion 2010 Clemens Schattschneider. They are going to offer shredding at it’s highest level.

Numerous side events, as parties featuring well known bands and DJs, will round off the event.
This year’s main event in Westendorf will start off with the „K2 JIB KNIGHTS“. This warm up jib session will take place on March the 11th at the Talstation Alpenrosenbahn. The riders will present their skills on a stair-set with a down-flat-down and a down rail. The best tricks will be rewarded on the spot.

The legends ranking is again also going to be a special highlight. Past winners and additional famous faces such as Max Plötzeneder, Jocki Köffler and Tom „Noodle“ Recheis are going to be present.

Holding true to the motto „never change a winning team“ the co-operation between the independent Austrian Snowboard Association n.asa, the famous snowboard crew Ästhetiker and the guys of Boardplay continues. These three famous institutions of the local snowboard community will present the event for the third time. The Shred Down Austrian Masters stands out amongst the crowd of snowboard contests because of the range of starters, the set up and the side events.

Based on two legendary contests, the „Shred Down“ and the „Austrian Masters“, one extraordinary event was developed two years ago. The feedback of the riders and the spectators bear out that the organizers did the right thing to merge these two contests.

„The Shred Down Austrian Masters aren’t just a get-together of the local snowboard scene. They’re rather a meeting of the international community. Every year the pipe and the slopestyle contest is a nice session among friends. Additionally it’s a good experience and an unique chance for all the good rookies to present themself.“ Rudi Kröll – Ästhetiker and over all winner 2010

„I always like to be part of the Shred Down Austrian Masters. The location, the good pipe and the crowd which is always on site (specially the legends) turn the pipe contest into something very special. The slopestyle in Westendorf is anyway an unforgettable experience!“ Julia Baumgartner – over all champion women’s ranking 2010

„ The Shred Down Austrian Masters event is one of the funniest and coolest contests. It’s perfectly organized and every year you can meet a lot of cool people you can have lots of fun with. So to all rookies out there: What are you waiting for!“ Clemens Schattschneider – over all rookie champion 2010

Gogo, Meini and the rest of the organizing committee have once again remodeled the Shred Down Austrian Masters. They are going to present it even bigger and better in the upcoming season. So you can definitely look forward to this outstanding event!
