Red Bull Hammers with Homies: brand new event partner for the Black Yeti

Madonna di Campiglio, Trentino, Italy

During the Easter weekend, April 16 – 17, the international finals of Red Bull Hammers with Homies contest were held in Madonna di Campiglio, Trentino, Italy. Surrounded by magnificent views, the athletes challenged each other in two team comps during the intense weekend of sport, adrenaline and music: rail contest on Saturday and slopestyle on Sunday.

Why do we tell you all this? As you probably know, last year World Rookie Tour and Red Bull have ratified the partnership for the winter closing event in Italy, the international Red Bull Hammers with Homies, and many rookies from our qualification events had been invited.

From Finland, the “Kona Team” that won the invitation during the last World Rookie Finals in Kaprun, ranked third at the rail jam on Saturday and at the slopestyle on Sunday. “Team Frenchies” from France, invited from World Rookie Fest in Livigno, finished fourth at the rail jam and also at the slopestyle. The Dust team formed also by old acquaintances of the rookie tour as Nick Puenter and Davide Boggio and, as well, new talent such as Alex Lotorto, won the Hammers with Homies rail jam.

Going into the event detail, the 15 crews from all over the world had the opportunity to unleash their best tricks and showcase their team creativity.

The shapers of the Ursus Snowpark, together with F-Tech Snowpark Design, created a terrifying rail set for the City Rail Contest on Saturday. A crowd of public watched and cheered for the 15 teams made up of 3 riders each, who are challenged by the Knock-Out System to the best of the single dry run. A race full of tension and adrenaline, which attracted everyone’s attention. The Dust team, made up of Alex Lotorto, Davide Boggio and Nick Puenter, won the first place. In second place the Nitro International Sick Dragons Slayerz 43 team with Alexis Roland, Simon Gschainder and Nils Arvidsson. Third place for the Team Kona from Finland: Elias Hamalainen, Mitja Kauranen, Roni Aalto.

A real party for snowboarders and non-snowboarders who were able to continue to have fun dancing to the notes of the well-known Italian hip hop artist “Salmo”.

On Easter Sunday the competition moved to the top of the mountain at the Ursus Snowpark, where it was the turn of the Team Slopestyle Battle. The format included the execution of two runs each with access to the finals of the best 8 crews. The finalists then challenged each other via the Knock-Out System with a single race. The final saw local heroes “The Ursus Hunters” and the “Sick Dragons Slayerz 43” compete in three runs full of tricks, creativity and teamwork. In second and third place we find the winning crews of the rail contest: Sick Dragons Slayerz 43 in second place and Team Kona in third. The Ursus Hunters team composed by Leo Framarin, Emil Zulian and Nicola Liviero (all former rookies) was crowned the best snowboarder crew of Red Bull Hammers with Homies 2022.

The judges rewarded the team spirit, that is how the riders interacted with each other, highlighting the quality of the individual and the group, creativity in the choice and interpretation of the structures and tricks created and the technical execution of the maneuvres.

Red Bull Hammers With Homies turns out to be not only a competition, but a real snowboard show that has also attracted the attention of everybody on the slopes.

Look at the following LINK the video report of the coolest snowboard weekend of the season and see you next year!

Black Yeti will train at Prime Park Sessions

Prime Park Session and World Rookie Tour join forces to support future stars of snowboarding and freesking.

Starting from 2022 season all World Rookie Champions, male and female, snowboard and freeski, will be invited to join the iconic training camp “Prime Park Sessions” hosted annually in Stubai Glacier, Austria.

About Prime Park Sessions
Since 2013, freestyle pros from all over the world have met in the Stubai Zoo every autumn to prepare for the upcoming World Cup season during the Stubai Prime Park Sessions.  Annually, the so-called Prime-Line is set up next to the Pro-Line. This downhill with three large kickers is for the exclusive use of the participants of the Stubai Prime Park Sessions.

Olympic winners, XGames medalist and as well several former WRT Champions, are among those testing the Prime Line. But also many national freestyle skiing and snowboarding teams join the sessions. Many journalists and TV teams too use the pre-season to get footage for the next video projects.  The Stubai Prime Park Sessions is organize by Leg of Steel and you can learn more about this project at www.primeparksessions.com

Many Medals and Finals for the Olympian Rookies in Beijing 2022

Olympics are over and our ex rookies and former World Rookie Tour Champions have conquered 4 medals and 24 spots in snowboard and freeski finals. In addition, we had miscalculated in the last PR: from World Rookie Tour events in the last years, the Black Yeti accompanied to the Olympics more than 50 athletes in snowboard and freeski competions! A great pride for all of us, a great recognition for those who have made the future of these young rippers, its mission.

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games gave us important results, Olympic snowboard medals and excellent placings. In chronological order:

Sena Tomita, Japan,  Bronze in Beijin 2022 female half pipe, WRT HP Champ 2017
Jan Scherrer, Swiss, Bronze in Beijin 2022 male half pipe, WRT Grom Champ 2007

Black Yeti announces the Skateboard Rookie Rank

Discover all the info about rank and take some note about next stops:
Hamburg Rookie Fest (GER) and Romagna Rookie Fest (ITA)

Ready to drop into the history? The World Rookie Tour is working hard to make the best approach about our events and the final qualification criteria. That’s why the Black Yeti is ready to launch the new World Rookie Rank for skateboarding!

The Skateboard Rookie Rank is a ranking system developed as a qualification criterion for the World Rookie Finals and as a base for National Rookie Ranks. During the World Rookie Tour each official WRT event and many other partner events, will assign valuable points for the World Rookie Rank. At the moment the featured events are only street competitions organized by local clubs, organizers or national Sk8 federations.

Not only events the World Rookie Fest´s can be part of the Skateboard Rookie Rank. Any event can be part of the Skateboard Rookie Rank as long as grom – and rookie aged riders participate as well. For example, the European Best Foot Forward Tour by Blue-Tomato, featuring 10 stops all over Europe, for riders of all ages in one group, is already part of the Skateboard Rookie Rank.

Skateboard Rookie Rank registration and information for Organizer´s under this email address: registration@worldrookietour.com

The rider’s position in the ranking is determined by his/her average rank points calculated from three best results in the respective discipline (at the moment street only). The total summary points of 3 results or less divided always by 3 (also in case there is only one or 2 results).

Skateboard Rookie Rank is available here: www.worldrookietour.com/ranking

Categories for 2021:
Skateboard Rookie Rank – Girl Rookie (01.01.2000 and younger)
Skateboard Rookie Rank – Boy Rookie (born 01.01.2000 till 31.12.2005)
Skateboard Rookie Rank – Boy Grom (born 01.01.2006 and younger)
Skateboard Rookie Rank – Boy Overall (Rookie and Grom Man together)

Note About Girl Grom Category
We decided for the first season to have only one rank for Girls. This is due to the lower participation of Girls and the fact that, on almost all events at the moment, there is not a full Rookie and Grom Girls Podium. This leads to inconsistency in the Rank. But in general we are a big Fan of Girls Skateboarding and will have as well Grom Girls Podium with prices on all events with at least 3 participants per category, including the awarding of quali Tickets to the Finals.

The 2021 World Rookie Tour Skateboarding is dedicated to male and female skateboarders, divided in two age categories: Rookies (born from 1st January 2000 till 31st December 2005) and Grom (born from 1st January 2006 and younger).

– qualification by ranking: to be announced
– wild cards: WRT can assign up to 8 wild cards for the final.

World Rookie Rank
In the 2021 season there is also an important new element: the Skateboard World Rookie Rank! It is a ranking developed as an entry criteria for the World Rookie Skateboard Finals and as a base for National Rookie Ranks. During the World Rookie Tour, every event assigns valuable points for World Rookie Rank.

More information about World Rookie Rank will be available soon.

Hamburg Rookie Fest
World Rookie Tour Skateboard will kick-off in Germany from the 18th to the 19th of June 2021 with the first WRT skateboard event: Hamburg Rookie Fest presented by TSG Bergedorf. This kick-off event at the Allerfornia Skatepark, will be a comeback not just for competitive skateboarding but for skate culture and bonding of young skateboarders in general. With a spacious park area of more than 2000 m², a focus on street style skateboarding and many action sport activities and training programs, Allerfornia is the ideal place to start into the WRT season ‘21.
This event will not just be a competition, but a deep dive into skate culture for young rookies with an extensive supporting program and the opportunity to meet other like-minded rookies in a pleasant and professional setup.

The WRT organizing team is working hard in order to find a new location for the finals, which will be able to host the event by the end of the 2021 winter season, and discussions are going on with several ski resort on Alpine glaciers.

We are trying our best in order to run the 2021 World Rookie Finals for both Snowboard and Freeski” stated Meinhard Trojer, WRT event coordinator. “In the past months, we were able to run already several WRT events in North America and Europe, but the situation with the Covid Emergency oblige us to  be flexible and to find solutions to unexpected problems. Hopefully we will be able to communicate a reserve date and location in a few days.

World Rookie Fest in Livigno postponed to 2022

Coronavirus pandemic has caused many events around the world to be postponed due to a country’s government imposed restrictions; unluckily World Rookie Fest in Livigno, Italy, is one of them and the next edition is postponed to January 2022.

After 16 great editions of this iconic youth snowboard event, we are really sad to announce that the 2021 World Rookie Fest will not take place.” Stated Marco Sampaoli  from the event organization. “We don’t feel safe and fair to run our oldest and largest event in a reduced edition with many limitations to follow and together with Livigno and Mottolino Snowpark we decided to postpone the 17th edition to January 2022.
