Viking Invasion at the Ästhetiker Winter Mäsh

With winning the World Rookie Fest in Livigno 2013, Ole Christian Hagen directly qualified for the upcoming Ästhetiker Winter Mäsh. The 2-man team snowboard contest is going down 13th to 15th of February 2013 in Saalbach Hinterglemm, AUT.

“Team Captain Ole Christian Hagen has selected riding partner Anders Suua to create a Norwegian rookie powerhouse team. Underdogs to hero’s? We’re about to find out…

Considering the level of riding that has been put on the ground at the World Rookie Tour events in the past couple of years, it was not too difficult to offer a direct qualification spot to the winning rider at this year’s WRT in Livigno, Italy. If you wanted some young guns, it’s a damn fine place to start. Christian Haller, Roope Tonteri, Gjermund Bratten and Mathias Wiessenbacher being previous winners.

And if you have any concerns the Rookies are up to the task, maybe think again. Ole Christian took out the World Rookie Fest event with a winning run of Cab 7 to Switch b/s 9 to f/s 1080 to back 9…! Not a bad days work! The direct qualification made him the Captain of Team Rookie, with the difficult task of choosing his riding partner and team mate. He’s came back to us with a compatriot from Norway, Anders Suua – who by the way, is even younger!

One thing that is for sure, there is something in the water up there in Scandinavia… It is a Viking invasion.“

Ideas, Innovations & Interacting: WSF Meets the Industries

The joint meeting of WSF and EuroSIMA Mountain Division on Februrary 4th in Munich, Germany gathered both delegates from The National Snowboard Associatons and managers from international snowboard industries.

“This meeting should give the possibility to share ideas and cooperate for common projects”

Marco Sampaoli, WSF president

The International Sporting Goods Trade Show (ISPO) 2013 in Munich, Germany offered the chance for the members of the World Snowboard Federation and the Mountain Division of the European Surf Industry Manufactors Association (EuroSIMA) to come together and discuss topics of common interests.

In an interesting talk about how snowboard federations could work together with the industries, ideas for common projects in the future were brought up. One main topic was dealing with the question what could be done to attract more kids to snowboarding. With this brainstorming meeting, the WSF-EuroSIMA-working-group gained a bunch of innovational suggestions for new concepts waiting to be worked out and presented to the international snowboard community.

The report of the World Snowboard Day 2012 by EuroSIMA showed that the interest and pleasure for snowboarding is there all over the world. With 41 members on five continents, WSF is steadily working on developing snowboarding in all parts of the globe.

EuroSIMA Mountain Division Meeting

Conversation on “How to increase youth participation in Snowboarding” -2013 EuroSIMA MD discussion and action plan – Lead by Rémi Forsans and Iker Aguirre

That’s the priority of our collective strategy for the next year, and we have to work collectively on action plans to reinforce the youth participation, and the Snowboarding initiations and accessibility for beginners and youth generation.

2013 European On Snow Demo Tour : dates, confirmations and evolutions –Clive Ripley will present a report with the third organizers.

Snow Avant Premiere, Shop First Try and Pro Shop Test report

2012 World Snowboard Day (Report) Presented by Franck Laporte Fauret and Stephanie Godin

The EuroSIMA Staff will present the report of this last edition (Participation, figures, ambassador, new partners)

Discussion: The FIS World Snow Day is really focused in its communication towards kids and youth, we don’t have to let them all these opportunities. Even if we still have problems regarding Snowboards Instructors in Europe, we must involve all our efforts with riders, Clubs, associations and brands events to offer free Snowboards lessons for the kids through this unique event.

2013 European Snow Forum Update – Presented by Clive Ripley

Clive will present his proposal for 2013 edition, and the different alternatives of format and dates.

Exciting battle at „Ignalina Snowpark Opening”

The Monster Energy Ride in Baltics Tour`13 Stop3 gathered around 70 riders from 4 countries – Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia for the „Ignalina Snowpark Opening” – last weekend in Lithuania, Lietuvos žiemos sporto centras supported by the coolest local shop Boardsports.lt and the Lithuanian National Skiing Association.
The snowpark was perfectly built by Baltic Snowpark Agency and riders did appreciate it! Some teams like RXT from Estonia already came to practice the day before, while only a few local riders where there comparing to the competition day – when it felt like there is someone on each obstacle of the snowpark all the time. There were so many obstacles that it was tricky for the riders to choose the best line and land all tricks. The audience got to see great riding and high level tricks from all groups.

We would like to point out one rider: Indrek Tamm from Estonia, who showed once again an amazing run winning the 3rd consecutive RIB Stop in row in the category Snowboard Men Open! He is definititely leading at the moment – let’s see if anyone can change it during the next stops! For many riders it was not easy to keep the same style and tecnique in the qualifications and finals, so there were a lot of changes. However, we also saw amazing determination – many must have noticed Aidas Kukenys black eye and broken board, but he did not give up after the hard crash and stepped up to the 2nd place in the finals.

Before the finals an „AERODIUM Fly High” contest for snowboard kids group took place, where all results were super close. But the winner is Kaur Piirsalu EST beating all others and getting free flight in AERODIUM vertical wind tunnel.

While judges were finalizing the results, everyone could participate in the “Best Trick Competition” on the stair set up to get another free flight from AERODIUM and a special TTR World Snowboard Tour souvenir. Although there were many riders doing all kind of crazy tricks, landing them was not as easy. The Best trick prize went to Karina Vitina, LAT as she landed her trick nice and clean – BS Tailpress 270 Out on stair set up downbox! Right after the prize giving, many riders were heading home, so there was no big afterparty together this time, but we are all looking forward to the next BIG EVENT, when two stops of Monster Energy Ride in Baltics Tour`13 will happen in one weekend.

This is the second season when all high level snowboard and freesky competitions in the Baltic States are unitd in one tour – the Monster Energy Ride in Baltics Tour’13. After an incredibly successful tour in the first season, the tour meant to be back – more riders, more stops, more prizes and more fun! The next two Monster Energy Ride in Baltics Tour’13 stops will happen in one weekend – 16th and 17th of February 2013, Lemberga hute, Ventsils, Latvia which are going to be the Latvian Championships as well as the Burton Rookie Tour event. After 2 lucky qualification days, where snowy forecast turned in clen sky, the snow falls arrived over Valtellina, creating difficult condition for the finals of the 2013 WSF World Rookie Fest in Livigno. Winds and clouds didn’t scare the 42 finalists (16 male rookies, 12 male grom, 8 female rookie and 6 female grom) which were more than motivated to shred the Mottolino Snowpark even with a low visibility and some powder snow on the slopes. A real challenge for these young riders.

The male grom section showcased an insane level of riding since the qualifications where Norwegian ripper Marcus Kleveland stomped a bs double cork 1260. In the finals the challenge for the first place was beetwin Marcus and his team mate Isak Ulstein which resulted the best and conquered the top of the podium. Third place for Tit Stante from Slovenia, another name to remember.

In the male rookie category the battle for the title was amazing with several changes in top positions during the 3 final runs. The Norwegian Ole Christian Hagen conquered his second victory in Livigno, followed on the podium by Simon Bürki from Swiss and Rowan Coultas from Great Britain.

For the 8th time in the history of the World Rookie Fest, Norway resulted the best team of the event.

With 138 riders from 16 nations, and 8 nations rappresented on the 4 podiums, the 2013 WSF World Rookie Fest in Livigno resulted the largest and most international youth snowboard event ever organized in the history of World Snowboard Federation and TTR World Snowboard Tour. 2013 WSF World Rookie Fest in Livigno – Day1

Blue Sky and a perfect Mottolino Snowpark welcomed the day 1 at the 2013 WSF World Rookie Fest in Livigno. With 138 registered riders it is the largest only youth snowboard event organized in the history of World Snowboard Federation (WSF) and TTR World Snowboard Tour.

As the number the partecipation was more than the expectation, the program needed to be changed and the day 1 was used for training and qualification for the Heat 1, including male groms and all the girls. The riding level was extremely high already during the first training run and it culminated in an incredible run by 13 years old norwegian ripper Kleveland Marcus: switch backside 900, front side 720, backside double cork 1260 and cab 540. The feeling from the spectators was more to watch a pro event than a rookie slopestyle.

Stay tuned for the daily updated about thi leggendary rookie event.
