The 10th Nanshan Freeski Open returns to Beijing in January 2026

The Nanshan Freeski Open celebrates its 10th edition in Beijing, ready to raise the level once again.

The 10th Nanshan Freeski Open is set to drop in at Nanshan Resort from January 23 to 25, 2026, celebrating a major milestone for one of Asia’s most respected freeski slopestyle events. Founded by Nanshan Resort in 2015, the competition has consistently delivered high standards and progression-driven riding, earning recognition as an AFP Gold Medal event in Asia.

Across nine successful editions, the event has welcomed more than 50 world-class athletes from over 10 countries, including the United States, France, New Zealand, Italy, and Japan. Over the years, the Nanshan Freeski Open has featured some of the biggest names in freeskiing, helping build its strong international reputation and global appeal.

The 2026 edition marks the 10th anniversary of the event and aims to raise the level even higher. Top international skiers and emerging talents will come together on a dedicated slopestyle setup, delivering three days of competition focused on creativity, clean execution, and progression.

Beyond the contest itself, the Nanshan Freeski Open plays a key role in growing freestyle skiing in China. Since 2018, the Youth Training Support Program has inspired a new generation of riders, creating a solid talent pipeline. The youngest competitor is now just nine years old. In 2024, the event was named one of Beijing’s Top 10 Sporting Events, confirming its importance within the national ski scene.

The competition is open to Adult and Junior categories. Entry is free, and all registered athletes will receive free lift tickets for all three event days (January 23–25, 2026). Accommodation is not included and must be booked independently by participants. Prizes include skis, helmets, goggles, and ski apparel, with prize money to be announced.

Strong comeback for the World Rookie Camp at Hintertux Glacier

The second edition of the World Rookie Camp Hintertux confirmed once again why this event is one of the most inspiring freestyle gatherings in Europe. From 12 to 16 November 2025, more than 30 young snowboarders and freeskiers from seven nations met at Betterpark Hintertux, turning the glacier into the ultimate playground to kick off the new winter season.

Organized by the World Rookie Tour in collaboration with Ästhetiker and the World Snowboard Federation, the camp combined professional training, education, and fun the perfect mix for the next generation of freestyle talents. Riders aged between 11 and 18 spent five days on snow, improving their skills under the guidance of an experienced coaching crew, focusing on style, safety, and technical progression.

But the experience at World Rookie Camp Hintertux went far beyond snowboarding and freeskiing. Off snow sessions included a guided visit to the Spannagel Cave, where participants explored one of the most fascinating natural landmarks of the Zillertal Valley, and trampoline training at KABOOOM Airparc, where they practiced airtime, coordination, and body control in a playful way.

Knowledge met practice during the Judge Workshop led by Balasz Gyorki, giving riders a deeper understanding of judging criteria and contest formats a unique learning opportunity for those dreaming of competing on the World Rookie Tour circuit.

Evenings were dedicated to video analysis sessions hosted by CK Chris Kröll at the Madseiterhof, where athletes reviewed their runs frame by frame, identifying improvements and celebrating progress together.

Meinhard Trojer commented: “The second edition could not have gone any better.”
Florian Müller added: “The camp perfectly combines training, education, and community.”
For sixteen-year-old US skier Jacqueline Kanzler, it was “an incredible week full of perfect snow, laughs, and new friendships.”

With this strong comeback, the World Rookie Camp Hintertux once again proved to be the best way to start the season and a perfect introduction to the upcoming World Rookie Tour Winter 2025/26.

RaR Rookie Fest Riga: street shred takes over Latvia

Riga is about to switch fully into street mode. On November 29–30, the Latvian capital will host the RaR Rookie Fest Riga, an official stop of the World Rookie Street Tour, turning the city into a high-energy playground for young snowboarders and freeskiers hungry for progression and style.

Organised by the Latvian Ski Federation, in collaboration with the World Rookie Tour and Ghetto Games, this is where Baltic grit meets the global rookie scene. Snowfest Riga will set the stage, blending street culture, music, and spot-style riding into two days of pure action.

The custom rail setup—built for Rookies and Groms—is designed to spotlight creativity, technical precision and that fearless street mindset. Under the lights, riders will battle through qualifications, semifinals and finals, feeding off crowd energy and the unmistakable Rock A Rail DNA that fuels every feature.

As an official World Rookie Street Tour stop, RaR Rookie Fest Riga awards full World Rookie Rank points, making it a key moment for anyone looking to climb the standings early in the season.
And for snowboarders, the stakes are even higher: the podium finishers will secure a direct qualification for the Snowboard Street Finals, scheduled for March 2026 in Kaprun: the ultimate showdown for the world’s best under-18 street riders.

The World Rookie Tour expands with the launch of the World Rookie Street Tour: a fresh urban series for freeskiers and snowboarders, created in collaboration with Rock A Rail.

The World Rookie Street Tour is here! And it’s bringing a brand-new urban twist to the legendary World Rookie Tour.
This season, the WRT joins forces with Rock A Rail, Europe’s most iconic street event, to create a platform where freeskiers and snowboarders can showcase their creativity, style, and progression in authentic urban environments.

From now on, during each Rock A Rail stop, one full day will be transformed into a World Rookie Fest, officially part of the World Rookie Street Tour calendar.
Riders will challenge themselves on rails, ledges, and innovative street features, turning every city setup into a playground for new tricks and bold style.

The first stop of the World Rookie Street Tour kicks off this Sunday, November 16th, at the Open Rail Jam in Hintertux, during the World Rookie Camp.

During the World Rookie Camp Hintertux, snowboarders and freeskiers from all over will battle it out in an Organised Jam Session on Sunday, November 16, 2025. The top 3 women and 5 men in each sport will qualify directly for the legendary Rock A Rail Innsbruck Finals, taking place from November 21 to 23, 2025.

There are no age limits, and spots are limited to 50 riders per sport — first-come, first-served.

The Freeski Finals Madonna di Campiglio will feature Slopestyle and Big Air competitions, where Europe’s best rookies will show off style, amplitude, and technical precision. Riders will challenge perfectly shaped lines at Ursus Snowpark, a location renowned for its creative setup and breathtaking alpine views. Between one run and the next, athletes and fans alike will experience the unique atmosphere of the Dolomites, where sport, nature, and community blend in perfect harmony.

SNOWBOARD FINALS – KAPRUN, AUSTRIA

Immediately after the Freeski event, the action will move across the Alps to Kaprun – Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. From March 21 to 28, 2026, the Snowboard Finals Kaprun will bring together the top young snowboarders from every corner of the globe. This edition will feature both Slopestyle and Halfpipe, two disciplines that have defined the identity of the World Rookie Tour since its origins. Kaprun’s snowpark and halfpipe are among the best in Europe, offering the perfect setup for breathtaking tricks and high-level competition.

Over 70 young athletes worldwide gathered to battle for the prestigious title of Rookie Champions in Freeski Slopestyle Finals, delivering high-level tricks, smooth style, and unstoppable energy.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the perfectly shaped park allowed the competition to run smoothly, providing the perfect stage for this international youth freestyle celebration. Madonna di Campiglio is ready to host the Ursus Big Air 2025, the first stop of the 2025/26 World Rookie Tour winter season and an FIS-sanctioned competition. From April 18 to 20, 2025, young snowboarders and freeskiers will gather at the legendary Ursus Snowpark for an epic showdown. This event not only offers the chance to earn FIS, WSPL, and WRT rank points but also serves as the first gateway to qualify for the 2026 World Rookie Finals.

The ultimate Big Air competition in the Alps

The Ursus Big Air 2025 is set to challenge the best freestyle athletes with a massive kicker that allows jumps ranging from 18 to 27 meters, providing the perfect stage for technical mastery and progressive tricks. The event is open to both snowboarders and freeskiers, welcoming rising talents and top riders from around the world.

One key feature of Ursus Big Air 2025 is that having an FIS code is NOT mandatory to compete, making it an accessible but high-level contest. However, only athletes who can confidently hit the 18-meter kicker to the sweet spot are eligible to participate.

Who can compete?

The event is open to young freestyle riders born on or after January 1, 2007, and is divided into two competition categories:

  • Rookies: Born between 2007 and 2009

On March 1st, 2025, the Riders Park at Donovaly became the epicenter of freestyle action as it hosted the Snowboard & Freeski Slovakia Rookie Fest 2025, an official stop of the World Rookie Tour. With 32 riders from Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary, the event showcased an incredible level of Slopestyle progression set against a backdrop of perfect weather and ideal conditions.

A slopestyle course designed for progression

Donovaly’s Slopestyle course was the perfect stage for young talents, featuring three jumps (3m, 5m, and 8m tables) and a rail platform. This well-built setup allowed riders to push their limits and deliver some of the finest tricks of the season. From the youngest competitors, wearing bibs that looked like oversized dresses, to the oldest Rookies landing pro-level tricks, the next generation of freestyle was on full display.

This year’s event wasn’t just about the rising stars—it was also combined with the Slovak National Championships, attracting Slovakia’s national team and freestyle legends. Snowboard & Freeski results: Poland dominates the podium

🏆 Snowboard Grom Boys – Gustav Nawarkiewicz-Wiśniewski (Poland) pulled off an incredible double victory, winning both the Groms category and the overall men’s open division, marking one of the biggest surprises of the event.
🏆 Snowboard Rookie Boys – Jakub Nawrocki (Poland) claimed the top spot.
🏆 Snowboard Grom Girls & Overall Women – Ella Görcsösová (Slovakia) delivered a dominant performance, winning both categories.
🏆 Snowboard Rookie Girls – Janka Gáspár (Hungary), the only competitor, showcased her talent with style.
🏆 Freeski Grom Boys – Ziemowit Stańco (Poland) secured the win.

Calling all young snowboarders and freeskiers! The Slovakia Rookie Fest 2025 is set to take place on March 1st, 2025, in Donovaly, Slovakia, as part of the World Rookie Tour. This unmissable freestyle event will bring together the best up-and-coming riders worldwide to compete in Slopestyle disciplines.

A freestyle hub in the heart of Slovakia

Donovaly is Slovakia’s freestyle capital, offering snowboard and freeski enthusiasts an epic playground. The Riderspark at Park Snow Donovaly will host the competition, ensuring a top-tier setup for riders to showcase their skills.

But the event is not just about the competition – it’s also about fun, friendships, and experiencing Slovakia’s stunning natural scenery and local cuisine.

The action kicks off on Friday, February 28th, 2025, with unofficial training sessions, followed by an online Riders & Coaches meeting in the evening (at the following LINK at 19:30). Saturday, March 1st, is the main event day, featuring:
