World Rookie Street Tour: the new urban chapter of the World Rookie Tour

The World Rookie Tour expands with the launch of the World Rookie Street Tour: a fresh urban series for freeskiers and snowboarders, created in collaboration with Rock A Rail.

The World Rookie Street Tour is here! And it’s bringing a brand-new urban twist to the legendary World Rookie Tour.
This season, the WRT joins forces with Rock A Rail, Europe’s most iconic street event, to create a platform where freeskiers and snowboarders can showcase their creativity, style, and progression in authentic urban environments.

From now on, during each Rock A Rail stop, one full day will be transformed into a World Rookie Fest, officially part of the World Rookie Street Tour calendar.
Riders will challenge themselves on rails, ledges, and innovative street features, turning every city setup into a playground for new tricks and bold style.

The first stop of the World Rookie Street Tour kicks off this Sunday, November 16th, at the Open Rail Jam in Hintertux, during the World Rookie Camp.
The top riders will earn a spot for Rock A Rail Innsbruck, where they’ll join the action alongside some of the 2025 WRT champions.

After Hintertux, the World Rookie Street Tour will move to Riga, Latvia (November 30th), and then to the Netherlands (December 21st); spreading the WRT energy across Europe before the winter tour fully begins.

The World Rookie Street Tour represents the natural evolution of the WRT philosophy, bringing its authentic spirit of progression, friendship, and creativity into the heart of the city.
By joining forces with Rock A Rail, the Tour connects mountain and urban cultures, inspiring a new generation of riders to express themselves beyond the slopes.
Each stop of the World Rookie Street Tour will deliver not only contests, but also community vibes, music, and the unmistakable rookie energy that makes the WRT truly unique.

Rock A Rail The Hague in The Netherlands

This new chapter confirms the mission of the World Rookie Tour: to inspire young talent, connect communities, and celebrate action sports culture in all its forms —from the backcountry to city streets.

Upcoming stops:

  • Nov 16 – Open Rail Jam Hintertux, Austria

  • Nov 30 – RaR Rookie Fest Riga, Latvia

  • Dec 21 – RaR Rookie Fest Den Haag, Netherlands

Same progression. New playground. The World Rookie Street Tour is on.

THE GRAND FINALE: WORLD ROOKIE FINALS 2026

From March 21 to 28, 2026, the Snowboard Finals Kaprun will bring together the top young snowboarders from every corner of the globe. This edition will feature both Slopestyle and Halfpipe, two disciplines that have defined the identity of the World Rookie Tour since its origins. World Rookie Tour Documentary: 20 years of action sports

The World Rookie Tour Documentary: 20 years of action sports is finally here.
Premiering on Thursday, October 23 at 16:00 CET on the official World Rookie Tour YouTube channel, the film celebrates two decades of passion, progression, and community in youth freestyle sports.

From the first snowboard contest to a four-season global tour

It all started in 2006 at Mottolino Snowpark in Livigno, Italy, where a small group of snowboarders gathered for the first Livigno Rookie Fest. What began as a local snowboard event soon became a worldwide movement: the World Rookie Tour, the longest-running youth freestyle series in Italy and one of the most respected in the world.

The first official documentary, released in 2015, covered the early years of the Tour (2006–2015), when everything revolved around snowboarding.
Now, a decade later, the story continues with a brand-new chapter (2016–2025) that shows how the Tour has grown into a four-season international circuit, including snowboard, freeski, skateboard, and surf.

A pathway for the next generation

Since its beginnings, the World Rookie Tour has provided a real platform for young riders to develop their talent and start a professional career in action sports.
Many of today’s global champions started right here as rookies.
Takeru Otsuka became a three-time World Rookie Finals winner before earning X Games gold.
Kokomo Murase first competed at just eleven and later became an Olympian and X Games champion.
Valentino Guseli stands today as one of the most complete snowboarders in the world, with World Cup podiums across halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air.
Hiroto Ogiwara, two-time World Rookie Champion (2021 & 2022), set a Guinness World Record by landing the first-ever backside 1980.
Matej Švancer turned rookie titles into Youth Olympic gold and FIS World Cup victories, and Leila Iwabuchi made history in 2025 by landing the first-ever back-to-back 1260 line in women’s snowboarding.
From the skate scene, Toe Sasaki, a former WRT competitor, became the 2024 World Skateboarding Championship gold medalist, while Mia Brookes became the youngest Snowboard World Champion ever.

More than competition

The World Rookie Tour Documentary 20 Years is not just about contests and medals. It’s about growing together, building friendships, and sharing creativity across generations and continents. Each event — from the snowy peaks of Livigno to the skateparks of Europe and the beaches of surf rookies — reflects the same Rookie spirit: learning, connection, and fun.

Featuring interviews with Meinhard Trojer and Marco Sampaoli, Co-Founders of the World Rookie Tour, the new film retraces the evolution of this global community and the power of believing in youth.

Watch the World Rookie Tour Documentary – 20 Years of Action Sports premiere on Thursday, October 23, at 16:00 CET on YouTube, and don’t forget to subscribe and set your reminder to join the celebration live.

Freeski joined the World Rookie Tour family in 2019, bringing new style and progression to the mountains.
Skateboarding became part of the World Rookie Tour in 2019, taking the Rookie spirit from snow to the streets.
Surf joined the World Rookie Tour in 2021, making the dream of a true four-season action sports circuit complete.

He.Art Project: when Art, Snow, and Inclusion meet in Hintertux

During the Hintertux Opening 2025, the Black Yeti crew brought creativity and inclusion to the glacier with a new and inspiring edition of the He.Art Project, featuring the talented artist Harald Kirchebner. This special moment turned the mountain into an open-air studio, where riders, artists, and guests from Lebenshilfe Tirol came together to celebrate the power of art, snow, and community.

He.Art Project

The He.Art Project was born from a simple but powerful idea: that art and snowboarding share the same energy. Both are about self-expression, emotion, and breaking boundaries. On the snow, riders express themselves through movement; on canvas, artists express the same spirit through colour and form. This weekend in Hintertux, those two worlds met in perfect harmony.

Together with Lebenshilfe Tirol, an association that supports people with disabilities in living active, creative, and independent lives, the project became a vibrant example of inclusion through creativity. Participants and riders collaborated side by side, creating paintings inspired by the mountains, snowflakes, and the joy of sharing experiences outdoors. Each brushstroke reflected freedom, friendship, and the universal language of art.

He.Art Project

As the glacier sparkled under the autumn sun, laughter and colours filled the space. Harald Kirchebner guided the group with his unique artistic approach, encouraging everyone to express their emotions freely. For many, it was their first time combining painting and snow — a moment to remember, where the spirit of the mountains met the warmth of human connection.

Through initiatives like this, Black Yeti and the World Rookie Tour continue to promote a vision of snowboarding that goes beyond competition. It’s about community, creativity, and inclusion – about transforming the mountains into a space where everyone belongs.

Because snowboarding isn’t just a sport — it’s a culture made of shared passion, open minds, and endless inspiration.
