Japan is back on the Road to the World Rookie Finals with the Washigatake Rookie Fest, returning on February 12, 2026, at Washigatake Ski Resort in Gifu. Once again, the event is officially part of the PSA-Asia Tour, confirming its long-standing role as one of the most important development platforms for young snowboarders in Japan.

Set in one of the country’s most iconic snowfall areas, Washigatake is known for its reliable snow conditions and its strong freestyle culture. Season after season, this venue attracts the most motivated rookies and groms from across Japan, all sharing the same objective: stepping up their level and earning a place at the World Rookie Finals, where the best young riders from around the globe meet.
Washigatake Rookie Fest is deeply rooted in Japanese snowboard history. Over the years, it has played a key role in shaping the national freestyle scene, acting as a true launchpad for emerging talent. Riders who are now established on the international stage, such as Kokomo Murase and Hiroto Ogiwara, took some of their first competitive steps right here. This legacy makes the event more than just a contest — it’s a milestone in a rider’s progression.
The competition features Snowboard Slopestyle and is open to Rookies and Groms, both men and women. The park setup is designed to reward clean execution, smart line choices, and controlled progression. The focus is not only on landing tricks, but on building consistency, confidence, and competitive awareness — key elements for athletes preparing to compete at international level.
As part of the Road to the World Rookie Finals, Washigatake Rookie Fest continues to be a crucial stop for young Japanese riders looking to measure themselves against high standards and take the next step in their competitive journey.
