World Rookie Fest in Livigno postponed to 2022

Coronavirus pandemic has caused many events around the world to be postponed due to a country’s government imposed restrictions; unluckily World Rookie Fest in Livigno, Italy, is one of them and the next edition is postponed to January 2022.

After 16 great editions of this iconic youth snowboard event, we are really sad to announce that the 2021 World Rookie Fest will not take place.” Stated Marco Sampaoli  from the event organization. “We don’t feel safe and fair to run our oldest and largest event in a reduced edition with many limitations to follow and together with Livigno and Mottolino Snowpark we decided to postpone the 17th edition to January 2022.

World Rookie Fest welcomes Top Rookies

Livigno and Mottolino Snowpark welcomed 144 competitors from 14 different Nations aged 9 to 18, competing in the 12th edition of the legendary World Rookie Fest.

Today, January 14, all participants got the chance to test the slopestyle setup during the open training session. Unfortunately poor snow conditions and wind storm for four days in a row didn’t allow the previously announced snowpark set up. Mottolino Snowpark shapers crew spent the last days to create the best possible slopestyle course for our Rookies. The final set up consists of a downrail, 1 table with 2 kickers each (12 meters, 16 meters) and another rail, the last jibbing obstacle.

Competition started today with the training day and a great opening ceremony, with the video première of Stronger, the Union Team Movie, and the welcome party. In the next days the Mottolino Snowpark will host qualifications. In two heats, rookies have to prove their talent for their entries into the super finals scheduled on the Wednesday 18th January. In the meanwhile, for tomorrow afternoon (Monday 16th January) Black Yeti plans a great program: at 16:30 the stunning video premiere “2016 World Rookie Tour TV Show” with the best moments from last season tour, follows by the gripping workshop “How to increase rider’s visibility”.

Get ready for incredible tricks from the world’s best young snowboarders in the slopestyle contests at the Livigno Mottolino Snowpark! This is the place of positive energy, cool tricks and good vibes!

WSF rookie events are reserved to Rookies (born from 1st of January 1998 to 31st of December 2000) and Grom (born from 1st of January 2001 and up), both boys and girls. All contests of the World Rookie Tour will generate valuable results for the TTR World Snowboard Tour Ranks and for the World Rookie Rank developed by World Snowboard Federation.

ABOUT THE WORLD SNOWBOARD FEDERATION

The World Snowboard Federation (WSF) is the international organization exclusively working to develop the sport of snowboarding at all levels. Program areas include: competitions, Para-Snowboard, judge and shapers, education and certification, and snowboard activities for riders of every age. The WSF represents a network of National Snowboard Associations (NSAs) who work together at a worldwide level to promote the development of snowboarding. NSA members can find a source of inspiration and support from the WSF for the activities they are conducting within their nation and by working towards the same goal: progression of snowboarding from the ground up. The WSF collaborates with the TTR Pro Snowboarding, the owner and operator of the TTR World Snowboard Tour and the TTR World Ranking System. Through this collaboration and coordination of events at the TTR World Snowboard Tour, The WSF and the TTR want to create an environment that fosters the development of competitive snowboarding. In February 2012, the WSF and the TTR hosted the inaugural World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo, Norway, an elite level event to be held every four years in alternating cities around the world. Official website: www.worldsnowboardfederation.org.

About TTR Pro Snowboarding & World Snowboard Tour
TTR Pro Snowboarding is a non-profit organization that oversees a professional network of events and athletes. Our objective is to develop and showcase the sport of snowboarding through the World Snowboard Tour, while facilitating a fair and open competition environment that includes innovative judging and ranking systems. We encourage riders to develop from rookies into world-class athletes through a 6 Star level rating system; which will be replaced by a new 4-tiered structure from October 2014. Under the new World Snowboard Tour 2.0, the 4-tiered structure will encompass Elite, International, National, and Regional event levels. Elite events will comprise the WST Pro Series (current working title). The Regional, National, and International levels of the WST 2.0 will make up the WST Qualifying Series (working title).

Netherlands is the Best Team of the 2016 World Rookie Fest

World Rookie Fest, the most famous youth snowboard freestyle event in the world, took place in Livigno, Italy, at Mottolino Fun Mountain, with 155 riders from 18 different nations. The largest edition ever was a big success despite the unstable weather conditions, so that qualification day had to be cancelled due to heavy snow storm and strong wind.

However, for the final day the organizers could use a window of less wind and made contest with two runs for each rider in each category, and the international young snowboarders were able to push the competition at a high level.

Black Yeti proved once again that the future snowboard pro riders are just around the corner. After Norwegian team’s nine consecutive victories as Best Team, and the last year victory of the Swiss Team, another team wins, Netherlands, with two riders at the top of the Rookie Boys’ rank and a second place in the Grom Boys’ category.

Luck of snow and bad weather didn’t stop the event thanks to the energy of a great staff, motivated riders, an enthusiast crew and the shaper team of the Mottolino Snowpark.” stated Marco Sampaoli, WSF Vice President and event organizer “We are very happy for this successfully edition, the largest but also the most difficult edition ever”.

Dutch young gun Erik Bastiaansen took the first place in the Rookie category with a solid run. He impressed the judges and scored 90.03 points in his second run with Cab10 indy on the jump and Cab180 to 50-50 3 out over the a-frame. Erik wins ahead of another dutch rider, Niek Van Der Velden, and the Australian “Party King” Tom Harveyson.

The high number of Groms was an impressive element: 55 of 155 participants were under 14, showing a powerful renewal among the new snowboarders. Best Grom of the 2016 World Rookie Fest was young Swiss rider Elias Rupp, wins with a stylish run: Switch Back7 mute to cab 180 in 50-50 back 180 out from the a-frame. Casper Wolf from Netherlands and Samuel Camenzind from Switzerland.

On the girls’ side, Finnish rider Henna Ikola left 15 other Rookie Girls behind her by landing a huge Backside540 indy on the big kicker to a stylish cab 180 to 50-50 on the box. In the rest of Scandinavian podium two Norwegians: Nora Frisvold and Hanne Eilertsen.

Tina Steffensen from Norway showcased a great performance as best Grom girl with a huge Backside360 tail on the big kicker to 50-50 out from the a-frame, ahead of Luan Salgueira from France and Emma Gennero from Italy.

Probably it was one of the most difficult competition I’ve directed ever. Due to bad weather for 4 days in a row we were forced to change the program more than one time, change course, but I never give up. The working team and Mottolino Snowpark were always ready to follow my reserve plan and in the end, we did it. Thanks to riders, coaches, parents to the patience, and a special thanks to my team” stated Gian Luca Zanetti, WRF Race Director.

All the riders competed for prestigious awards including three all-inclusive tickets for the 2016 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl and two for the 2016 Trentino Rookie Fest in Monte Bondone. All the athletes on the podium are qualified for the 2016 Volkl World Rookie Finals!

Black Yeti congratulates all the riders who showed great style, battling the slopestyle in such hard weather conditions.

2016 World Rookie Fest kicks off in Livigno, biggest than ever

The Black Yeti won the war against the lack of snow and welcomed 155 enthusiastic young riders from all over the world in Livigno for the 2016 World Rookie Fest. Despite the poor snow conditions, the Mottolino shapers crew spent night and day to create the best possible slopestyle course for the rookies and the Mottolino Snowpark is now ready for incredible freestyle actions.

With 155 registered riders, the 2016 World Rookie Fest is the biggest event of the World Rookie Tour ever, and the largest only youth freestyle snowboard competition ever organized in the history of World Snowboard Federation and TTR World Snowboard Tour.

After 11 years, it is always great to welcome in Livigno all these rookies and groms from all over the World” stated Marco Sampaoli, event organizer and WSF Vice-President. “Every year the event grows and with 155 riders from 18 different countries we are really proud to host the largest youth snowboard event ever organized”.

The event started with a training day and a great opening ceremony, with the video première of the 2015 Rookie Trip to Chile, a movie filmed in South America with the best riders from last season World Rookie Tour 2015. Immediately after the welcome party took place in the event headquarter at Plaza Pacheda.

In the next days the Mottolino Snowpark will host all the 25 girls, 55 male Groms, and 75 male Rookies: they will battle in two qualification days for their entries into the super finals, scheduled on the Wednesday 13th January. In two heats the riders will have to prove their talent.

Swiss wins the 2015 WSF World Rookie Fest

Two new riders won the 10th edition of World Rookie Fest: rookies Mikko Rehnberg and Ramona Petrig outstood with unique style during the finals. Highlights video with winners’ runs are online.

Swiss TeamTen years now and the biggest edition ever: with 151 riders from 18 nations, divided into the 4 categories Rookie and Grom both Female and Male, Black Yeti’s tenth birthday has been celebrated in the best possible way. After Norwegian team’s nine consecutive victories as Best Team, it would be taken for granted for the 33 present people to double it, but Swiss changed the things with 4 riders on the podium, equally distributed among boys and girls.

Despite the initial forecast, weather conditions went even better than expected: the wind calming down and the sun popping out to warm up the riders, all the event took place following the program, from qualifications to finals. The first heat on Monday was reserved to male rookies, in order to select the best 16 for the finals, out of the 62: people around could take their breath away in front of the 14 and 19 metres jumps with tricks such as DoubleBackCork 10, Switch Bs 9, Fs 10 and pretty stylish jibbing down the perfectly shaped bigger lines of Mottolino snowpark. In the afternoon a special moment was dedicated to the past ten years of World Rookie Fest with a special guest: the Olympic athlete and former WRT rookie Seppe Smits talked about his experience with World Rookie Fest since the first edition in 2006, introducing the video ‘A Decade of Rookie Fest’ and first cutting the giant Black Yeti cake, among a standing ovation.

Mikko RehnbergTuesday was dedicated to the second heat, where female rookies and all the groms expressed their best to be qualified for the finals over the day after: 12 girls between rookies and groms, as well as 12 male groms were selected to show the world who will be the future pro riders.During the afternoons several lifestyle activities carried on: the avalanche clinic offered a comprehensive explanation about the use of artva equipment while freeriding and how to behave in case of avalanche, with a practical lesson on how to find and rescue a person covered in snow. The yoga lesson is the traditional meeting organised every year by WRF to teach the guys how to find their deep concentration and energies, in order to carry out a complete training.

Rookie PodiumAnd eventually, the finals! Mikko Rehnberg (Fin) took first place among the male rookies, followed by Haakon Kjoll Eilertsen (Nor) and Erik Bastiaansen (Ned). Respectively: Mikko shot a best run of Switch Bs DoubleCork 10 – Half Cab Tail touch on the mushroom – Fs 10 mute from toes; Haakon and Erik outstood with Bs DoubleCork 10 and Fs 10. How to go unnoticed? The girls made their way through the podium with Bs and Fs 3 over the XL jump of 19 metres, Ramona Petrig (Sui) earning the highest step followed by Katerina Vojackova (Cze) and Thaile Larochaix (Fra) as 2nd and 3rd place.

The Grom category could see the youngest riders competing to draw the future: under 14 female grom Lucy Sylvestre (Fra) won with her Bs 3 and male grom Wendelin Gauger (Sui) got first with a best run of Switch Bs 5 – Fs 3 out of the cannon – Fs 7.

All the athletes on the podium will be qualified for the Volkl World Rookie Finals 2015 and they will get points for the World Snowboarding Points Lists  and for the World Rookie Rank.

World Rookie Fest 2015 – Day 1

World Rookie Fest’s training has started officially! Today the snow has come to welcome the 149 participants to Livigno: despite the limited visibility and windy weather, all rookies and groms could try the obstacles to test speed and landing, also helped by the coloured marks. Mottolino’s shapers once again have been preparing a perfectly shaped park, where kickers and jib areas are alternate to give wings to very exciting slopestyle sessions.

The windiest moments have been cheered up by a walk around the Winter Experience Tour test village down Mottolino’s gondola arrival, where the guys could test equipment and materials from many brands.

The afternoon is going to celebrate the 10 years with ‘A Decade of Rookie Fest’, presented by the Olympic rider Seppe Smits, former WRF rookie. The giant Black Yeti cake will be huge enough for all the hundreds of guys?
