Snowy landscapes welcomed 10 nations at 2019 World Rookie Fest by Rock and Ride

The 2019 World Rookie Fest by Rock and Ride has finally started and riders from 10 nations were welcomed by a great amount of powder.

Unfortunately, the heavy snow conditions and the low visibility in the park didn’t allow the training to take place. However, these young guns had the chance to spend their whole days in Livigno backcountry and to do some freeride surrounded by amazing snowy landscapes.

Moreover, after the freeride sessions, they participated to many side activities organized by the World Rookie Tour staff at Plaza Placheda.

Yesterday evening at Livigno Touristic Centre took place the event presentation with the 2017/2018 World Rookie Tour TV Show and the welcome party, where riders had the opportunity to chill and to know each other.

Indeed, this afternoon, to relax the body and the mind after a snowboarding day, rookies gathered for a yoga session at the race office in Plaza Placheda.

Competition will start tomorrow at Mottolino Snowpark at 9:00! Stay tuned and don’t miss all the updates on World Rookie Tour Facebook and Instagram page!

Otsuka and Murase: from the WRT Title to the X Games Gold

If you dream to become a professional snowboarder,
then your future starts from World Rookie Tour!

Participating to the World Rookie Tour gives young snowboarders not only the opportunity to compete in some of the best events and best snowparks in the world but also to take part to the most prestigious pro events on the planet such as the X Games!

The young Japanese riders, Takeru Otsuka and Kokomo Murase, officially began their carrier as professional snowboarders by winning the 2018 World Rookie Finals in Kitzsteinhorn – Zell am See-Kaprun and earning there an invitation to the 2018 edition of the X Games Norway, where they both conquered the podium and got the prestigious X Games Gold Medal.

As Henning Anderson, the organizer of the X Games Norway stated “It’s a sports fairy tale. Earning a spot in our qualification is a legendary in itself. But winning both the qualification and the gold is beyond belief. It’s like Norway would have won the world champs in soccer, which will never happen”.

It was an historic victory as two young athlets, Takeru 17 and Kokomo 13, were able to conquer the podium and compete against Olympic medallists and the best snowboarders in the world.

World rookie tour champions winning the 2018 X Games Norway represent a great recognition for our project: to offer every rookie out there the possibility to make their Dream come true. If your dream is to be a Professional snowboarder, they your future start at the rookie Fest“, Marco Sampaoli WRT Co-Founder.

In 14 years of dedication and effort in the World Rookie Tour development, we saw many of our rookies became professional athlets and join professional events and Olympic Games. But watching our latest tour champions, just one month after the rookie finals, winning both the X Games in Norway is unbelievable: it show clearly the incredible sport level of our rookie event“, Meinhard Trojer WRT Co-Founder.

2018 New Zealand Rookie Fest – Report

From the 14th to the 16th of August Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand hosted the second edition of the New Zealand Rookie Fest and turned into a playground where riders lived three days of pure adrenaline. This amazing event concluded with the announcement of the first rookies qualified for the World Rookie Finals, to be held in Kitzsteinhorn at Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria, from the 25th to the 30th of March 2019.

Starting with the slopestyle competition, Japanese riders Yamada Yuto and Cool Wakushima conquered the highest spot on the podium, respectively in the men and women categories, showing an incredible riding level.

I wanted to spin all three of the jumps, that was my goal and I stomped it,” said Wakushima. “It’s my first time competing at this level event, I was a little bit nervous but excited at the same time. I can’t wait to go over to Austria.”

Regarding the halfpipe competition, on the 16th of August, World Rookie Tour riders had to face some challenges due to the heavy snowfall. However, despite the difficulties, young snowboarders showed their skills and impressed the Judges. In the end were the Korean Joon-Sik Lee and Na-yoon Lee who arrived first and won the halfpipe competition.

Last but not least, New Zealand also hosted the legendary World Rookie Trip! European and Asian champions of the previous season had the opportunity to fly to this incredible country and enjoy some days of video and photo shooting and many other activites such as skate sessions and guided tours. More information will follow soon! Stay Tuned!

Congratulations to everyone! The Black Yeti can’t wait to see you all in March for Finals!
